PCS #1 : Quality tracking and reporting system

Objective

  1. To set up a complete quality check recording system to monitor production performance.
  2. To sum up the issues and analyse data for automatic reporting and root cause finding. The tracking system should be used at the intermediate quality control station and the final quality control station.

Environment and constraints

  • Production of loudspeakers and amplifiers for audio professional industry. High quality product. Some pre-assembled parts are checked at intermediate checkpoint. 100% of final products are tested and controlled at all levels : mechanical, acoustic, electrical and aesthetic by an expert quality controller
  • Each quality controller should be able to log in at any station
  • Record every product with its serial number and be able to display its quality history record
  • As ergonomic as possible to avoid production bottlenecks at quality station
  • Categorize quality defects for further analysis
  • Able to manage defective product stock, prioritize repairing by date
  • Store quality data on server
  • Automatic analysis of defect data collection and reporting for management and corrective action decision purposes

Technologies

I managed the project from A to Z and had a professional coder as a part time resource. He took care of the recording system and I handled the analysis and automatic reporting.

Achievements

  • Daily use of the sheets by quality operator and different managers or engineers (Quality, Methods, Production).
  • Weekly automatic report reviewed at production meeting. Great asset for making decisions and focusing on major issues.
  • Great feedback on product lifetime after a few months which allowed us to settle strategy for continuous improvement of product’s design
